When hair is chemically treated, after a few weeks the new growth will appear with a kinky texture. Each time the new growth appears, the more difficult it is to handle. The new growth is normally more curly, dry and prone to breakage. This is why special care has to be taken to protect your delicate new growth from damage. Kinky hair needs as much moisture as possible to make it controllable.
How to Care for New Growth Kinky Hair
1. Squeeze some shampoo into your palms. Rub your hands together and massage the shampoo into the hair. Use warm water to wash the shampoo from the hair. Give it a final shampoo and rinse.
2. Peel away the skin from a ripe avocado. Crush it into a bowl, and add 2 tbsp. of olive oil and 1 tbsp. of honey. Combine all the ingredients together until it becomes creamy. Use your fingertips to massage it into your hair, with special attention to the kinky new growth. The ingredients will moisturize and soften the kinky new hair, making it easier to control.
3. Place a plastic shower cap over your hair. Tuck all strands of hair under the cap. Leave the plastic cap on the hair for 20 to 30 minutes to allow the nutrients from the ingredients to penetrate the roots of the new growth. Rinse your hair with warm water, dry and style it as usual. Use a moisturizer to oil the scalp each night before going to sleep.
