Continuing to from the last article about dogs and children where the safety measures are explained when u have to mix dogs with children. But people may actually wonder which dog or which dog breed in specific is suitable for children. But theres no complete answere to this qustion as almost every dog breed has the potential to get along good with children but you never know how the indivisual dog will turn out to be. But fact remains that some dog breeds are more tolerant over other n mix well with children. There are some factors that affect the dogs abilty to get along good with children.
Obedience traning : is absolutely essential. Make sure someone in the home can spend a lot of time training the new dog, especially if it is a puppy. If a child wishes to participate in training, it should be done under the supervision of an adult. In addition, the children in the household will need to be taught how to conduct themselves around dogs.
Size and age : Think about the ages and activity levels of your children. Toddlers can be knocked over by an awkward, gangly puppy who does not know his own size. Bigger kids could crush a small dog if they are not always careful. You may wish to consider getting an adult dog that has been around children - a puppy needs a lot of extra attention.
Personality : A family with kids ideally needs an intelligent dog with a good temperament and moderate energy level. Certain breeds may be naturally good with kids.
Here are some of the breeds of the dogs that are naturally good with children
Labrador Retriever
These breeds are usually great with kids and pretty smart, but they can be very hyperactive if they do not get enough exercise. There is a good reason why the Labrador Retriever is consistently one of the most popular dog breeds. In fact the Labrador Retriever is not just popular. This outstanding breed has been ranked number one in the AKC for the past three years. Undoubtedly one of the primary reasons behind the breed’s popularity is the reputation the Labrador Retriever has for being an excellent family pet that is good with children.
Owners of a Labrador Retriever who already have children or who plan to have children either already know or will soon realize their dogs and children are likely to become best friends. The bond between a Labrador Retriever and a child cannot be matched. Although your Labrador Retriever will most certainly bond with you as well, he will likely prefer the company of your child. This is because the temperament of a Labrador is very similar to childlike enthusiasm for life. Since the happiest dog is a tired dog, owners of Labrador Retrievers can take advantage of the friendship their child and dog have by allowing the two to play together until they are both worn out. This is a win-win situation because the child and Labrador Retriever will have a great time and the owner will enjoy peace and quite in the evening because the dog has had plenty of exercise and is happily exhausted.
Poodle
Believe it or not, the Poodle is extremely smart and has a great temperament. Plus, you have a size choice – toy, miniature, or standard. Regular grooming is necessary. Poodles and Children can develop a happy lifelong relationship. Poodles are affectionate and can be devoted to their young masters and mistresses. On the other hand some children can be neglectful, cruel and hurtful to animals. This type of behavior could turn a loving, trusting poodle into a distrusting and fearful pet.
To make sure the relationship is a happy one for everyone concerned, parents should take time to teach their children the proper care and acceptable way to treat a poodle. When children understand a poodle is more than just a plush stuffed toy, they are more likely to gain a better understanding of how to care for and love their poodle.
Bichon Frise
This little cotton-balls breed loves to play, but is not usually too hyper. It is also a small dog, which is perfect for your little humans. Regular grooming is necessary. These dogs are so lovable and so tolerant! They seem to express real emotion--a very good thing for kids! Our bichon seems to know when he's done wrong and displays signs that he feels bad, or he knows when someone is sad and just cuddles up or brings a toy to get some play going. Often Snowy will walk into the room where we're watching tv or doing something that to him doesn't look like fun and decide to change the mood. He'll go get a toy, and start teasing with it, until someone chases him. He's very smart! Bichons are small, they like to cuddle, they're smart and highly trainable. I can't think of a better dog breed to have with children!
Golden Retriever
The Golden Retriever is one of the best breeds to get if you have children. Their temperament is superb, making them the most loved of all breeds when children are concerned. Golden Retrievers never show any aggression towards children. The breed loves everyone with unconditional love. This is the breed that would welcome a burglar and lick him to death. They are smart and generally do not tug when a child walks them. They can be taught not to raise their paws towards little ones, for fear of scratching the child. They remain loyal to the end, treating the whole family as theirs. ou will find that a golden retriever will be a member of your family. There are so many breeds that are not recommended for children and people make the mistake of purchasing the wrong breed.
