Worlds Oldest dog

The known Oldest Living Dog who turned 21 years old on May 6th, 2009. Chanel is the name of the dachshund who celebrated her 21st b'day party at New York Dog Spa & Hotel
As she aged, Chanel's brown coat turned white and she developed cataracts. Her favorite meal was boiled chicken and brown rice. When venturing outdoors, she wore bright sweaters to protect her from a chill and stylish red goggle sunglasses to shield her eyes.



Apparently the the news is that chennel is passed away on friday august the 28th.



Another american dog Max is seems to be the next contender for the oldest dog record. Owner Janelle Derouen said Max marked his 26th birthday in August.

How long can a dog live???

Generally the dogs lifespan varies between 12-15 years. But it is seen that the smaller dogs have longer lifespan compared to larger dogs and it is also observed that dogs with long pointed muzzle have an slight age advantage over the dogs with flat face.
But in general the lifespan of dogs is increasing thanks to the modern dog care facilities, better health care and better nutrition and advanced veterinary science
But with age their eyesight dims n hearing abilty fades gradually but the bond with owner gets stronger . All the owners wish their dog can live fever with them but it is hardly possible that every dog can reach the 20's. But we can only make sure that the dog lives its ultimate golden years with comfort and happiness. Weight control and exercise are the key factor which add few precious years in dogs life.
Older dogs have different nutritional needs as their metabolism is weak so only the special food formulated for senior dogs should be given. It is suggested that provide smaller amount of food several times a day.
Senior dogs have high risk of heart stroke so they should be kept cool in summers where as a warm bed should be provided to comfort aching joints in the cold weather. Do take care that you provide the bed at the quiet place where it can rest away from all the house hold stuff.
Make fresh water readily available at several places in the home which are easily accessible to dog as they need to be hydrated.
Take time for the grooming which keeps it healthy and also gives you the chance to examine dog for any skin diseases or lumps or swollen body parts. Also take time to visit your vet for regular checkups.
The most important thing a dog needs in its descending years is your time and love. So make sure it never runs out of it and gets your full attention.
